The limited series, which was co-directed by Prashant Nair and Randeep Jha, will begin streaming on Netflix's OTT service on January 13 of 2023. "Trial by Fire" is based on the sad incident from 1997, when a fire engulfed Delhi's Uphaar Cinema. Trial by Fire: The Tragic Tale of the Uphaar Fire Tragedy, written by Neelam and Shekhar Krishnamoorthy, is the source of inspiration for the project.
The show depicts the parents, Neelam and Shekhar Krishnamoorthy, who lost their two children in the fire, as they endured a terrible but resolute journey. The limited series will explore the various lives affected and devastated by the fire as well as their never-ending struggles to seek justice over a twenty-four-year period.
Prashant Nair, the show's creator and director, provided additional information "Neelam and Shekhar Krishnamoorthy serve as admirable models of the kind of tenacity and perseverance required to make even a small difference in this nation. It is genuinely horrifying what happened to them and how they were compelled to struggle for justice, and, regrettably, there are numerous other people in similar situations today.
We are appreciative of Netflix for being such brave collaborators in this project." The project also includes Rajshri Deshpande, Rajesh Tailang, Ashish Vidyarthi, Anupam Kher, Ratna Pathak, Shilpa Shukla, and Shardul Bharadwaj.
