PM Modi Launches Nationwide Drive to Cut Oil Use by 10% Amid Rising Obesity Crisis

New Delhi, February 24, 2024: In the 119th episode of his Mann Ki Baat radio program on February 23, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed India’s escalating obesity crisis, particularly among children, and called for immediate lifestyle changes. Highlighting that one in eight Indians now suffers from obesity, PM Modi revealed that obesity cases have doubled in recent years, marking it as a growing public health concern.

To combat this trend, PM Modi urged citizens to reduce their cooking oil consumption by 10%, emphasizing that small changes in daily diets can lead to significant health improvements. “When purchasing oil for cooking, aim to buy 10% less. This simple habit can be a big step toward a healthier India,” he stated.

Expanding the campaign's reach, PM Modi nominated celebrities like Anand Mahindra, Mirabai Chanu, Shreya Ghoshal, and Sudha Murty to spread awareness through social media, encouraging them to nominate others to amplify the message.

Renowned athletes like Neeraj Chopra and Nikhat Zareen backed the initiative, sharing personal insights on maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also praised the campaign, committing to reduce his own oil intake.

With obesity on the rise, PM Modi’s call to action aims to inspire a nationwide movement towards healthier living.
